Exceptional Education Services Task Force

The Mission of the Task Force is to build community, analyze issues in special education, and solve problems. We have a problem solving/solution format.

We are accomplishing our task by leveraging the diverse skills, expertise, perspectives, and innovative thinking of PVUSD educators to come up with solutions to problems. And through this collaborative process, build trust and equity within our community.

Issues for the task force have come from a variety of stakeholders. Examples are: Differentiated Assistance, PVFT, SELPA Representative, District Level Concerns, Special Services Representatives, eventually from the task force.

Our first 3 topics to explore were:
1 - Communication
2 - IA Staffing & Substitutes
3 - Professional Development

October 8, 2019
The teams started working on the 3 identified problems. They clarified and stated the specific problem as a team, and started the process of setting conditions for a solution.

November 4, 2019
During this meeting, we continued our process on the above topics and started next steps for solutions.

November 19, 2019
AAC Task Force Sub-Committee met to learn about what PVUSD already has in place for AAC and to work on policies and procedures around tiers of support for students that have AAC devices and staff members that work with these students.

December 10, 2019
Two of the groups, IA Staffing & Substitutes and Professional Development were ready to share the solutions with the Task Force and these solutions will be brought to HR or the appropriate department.

December 17, 2019
AAC Task Force Sub-Committee met to go over the written policies and procedures developed after the last meeting and give further input before finalizing the procedures.

January 14, 2020
Three new topics were brought to the group at this meeting:
1 - Triennial IEP policy was reviewed & edited
2 - End of the year Transitions preschool-post secondary was looked at as there was a lack of consistent transition procedures. The team investigated possible root causes and started the work on possible solutions.
3 - Consistent Assessment Criteria for all mild/moderate special education students was explored and problems in this area were identified.
