Pajaro Valley Unified School District through the Healthy Start Program has six school based Resource Centers where Students in Transition, Foster Youth and their families received a variety of support services. Once referred or identified, students, and often their parents or caregivers, may be directed to local agencies working cooperatively with Healthy Start.
Students receive the following services; school enrollment (Pre-Kinder—12th), health insurance enrollment,
CalFresh enrollment, assistance with completing forms, free breakfast & lunch at school, transportation and
in-depth case-management. Information & Referrals to medical, dental, counseling, housing, educational programs and food.
Students in Transition are children, youth and families that find themselves homeless. Healthy Start performs atlength interviews to identify families who lack adequate housing, i.e. share the housing of others due to financial hardship (doubled, tripled-up in a home), living in a car, shelter, hotel or motel.
